Natural light is a very important factor both biologically, economically and emotionally. Whether it is a
work place, a
Garden Room or a
home, natural light has been proven to make people feel
happier, less negative towards people/work and more
productive.
In the human body, our sleep-wake cycles are dictated by circadian rhythms which in turn are controlled by a chemical called melatonin. The production of this compound depends on the time of the day in particular the amount of natural light available. Melatonin often referred to as ‘the hormone of darkness’ has been proven to make people feel more energised and comfortable, giving employee satisfaction and higher productivity in the work place. As a result of these findings, we often find ourselves subconsciously seeking out and enjoying bright and well-lit places.
Exposure to natural light is also a very
practical and
cost-effective solution to lighting at home or within a work-place such as a
Garden Office. In a typical building it has been found then on average lighting accounts for
25-40% of energy consumption, therefore allowing more natural light into the room can
reduce monthly energy bills.
As a result of this, we have incorporated various features into the design of our
garden rooms to maximise the amount of natural light entering the space this making for a healthy and energetic environment:
Bi-fold doors
We have designed the studio so that the entranced into the
garden rooms are not your typical single opening doors. Instead, through the use of a bi-folding door arrangement, the whole elevation of the garden studio can be folded to the side to allow the internal and external spaces to mix. As
aesthetics play a crucial role within our studios, the bi-folding doors are designed to
fold back against the Accoya surround and neatly tuck under the cantilever roof section, giving the doors a hidden appearance when opened.
Floor-to-ceiling windows
Our floor to ceiling windows allow for sufficient light to enter the garden room whilst providing a great aesthetic. Doubled glazed, argon filled panes are used as standard within our
garden rooms offering
high insulation properties to provide comfort in the winter as well as in the summer.
Velux roof windows.
We use a range of flat roof window solutions by Velux. These expertly designed products can be electronically controlled via a hand-held remote control allowing blinds to open and close, daylight to enter and fresh air to circulate. With built-in rain sensors, they are excellent for keeping the weather out.

Garden Studios are flexible spaces that can be utilised for a number of purposes and hobbies. They can be customised to match your particular needs. Whether it’s a
dedicated room for a particular hobby in mind, or simply just
additional room to use when required, having a Garden Studio can have a number of benefits both to your
lifestyle and to your
property.
It was reported earlier this year that Brits have spend £23million on garden improvements, with people choosing to
invest in garden
studios and
garden rooms to boost the value of their property as opposed to traditional home and interior renovations. This method proving to be a more
astute investment over habitual products such as
log cabins,
conservatories or
sheds.
Our Garden Studios are designed by a team of architects, designers and experts in construction and as a result our great looking studios are fully
customisable and
tailor-made to your individual requirements:
Gym | Music Room | Office | Granny Annex | Guest House | Living Room.
When it comes down to efficiency and maintenance, our
Garden Studios are constructed to the highest standards so you can continue to use the studio
all year round just as you would with any other room in your house… a big advantage over log cabins and conservatories. Our choice of
sustainable yet
durable materials such as
Accoya and Western Red Cedar ensures the studio is built to last. With a lifespan of over
50 years, your garden studio will become a permanent feature of your house and garden.

The most common misconception people have when it comes to the emerging market of
Sustainable & Contemporary Garden Rooms, is a likening to the
old garden shed. The above picture alone disapproves this link and distinguishes the two perfectly. However for those who are still not convinced, I shall go on.
The dated looking Garden Shed has been used by families for decades traditionally being utilised for storing the lawnmower, miscellaneous gardening equipment and as a stockpile of old unwanted domestic junk.
At the other end of the spectrum, we introduce to you the
Garden Studio, the new way to effectively utilise your garden space. Our studio’s are designed and built to be used for a whole host of purposes. Unlike a shed, the
Garden Room will come fitted with lighting inside and out, electrical sockets, internet, telephone and television points, an independent fuse board and heating.
Our popular floor to ceiling windows and bi-folding doors allow for the internal and external spaces to mix. This has been popular with our previous builds as the client can experience the sensation of being in-house whilst enjoying the benefits of their outdoor environment.
Another aspect worth looking at is the
Garden Office. With working from home becoming more common with the British folk, the last thing you want is to be working in a
dingy shed. Your workplace should be an inspiring, motivational space with adequate facilities to be at your most
productive. Our range of garden offices starting from just £9,995 can provide you with the ideal solution, and with the money saved on motoring expenditure the cost of the garden room would be recovered in no time at all.
Previous experience tells us that the most selected uses for garden rooms have been as a
home,
office,
relaxation space, or as a
granny annexe. Garden Rooms providing additional sleeping accommodation are proving a big hit in the current economic climate, with clients often finding it
easier and
cheaper to invest in a garden room than deal with the hassle and costs of moving house. Our highly insulated wall panels are only 215mm in thickness but pack in a primary foam
insulation board as well as a secondary
thermoreflective foil membrane to ensure comfortable temperatures all year round. Our thermal efficiency meets and even exceeds levels set by the building regulators as shown by our
u-values, thus helping you cut down on heating and maintenance costs.
We work closely with our sister company
Bark Joinery whom manufacture all of the bespoke furniture inside the studio as well as the windows, doors etc. Whether it’s a special type of desk you’ve seen, that extra bit of storage you desperately need or a kitchenette - at
in.it.studios we can design and build your perfect
Garden Room. This ability to manufacture almost all of the elements in house enables us to keep costs down and ensure the highest quality in maintained throughout the build.

Kieron Long from the London Evening Standard reports an interesting find – how working from home has become a
social phenomena. It reinforces why you should consider investing in an
in.it.studio Garden Office.
“Working at home is one of the great social phenomena in Britain today. A quarter of us do it, a workforce toiling at dining room tables, in bedrooms and garden sheds up and down the country”
“Architect Dr Frances Holliss at London Metropolitan University hopes to redress this imbalance with the Workhome Project, a useful and fascinating online resource, the results of her research into how people use their homes to work. Her research suggests that 25 per cent of the working population of the country are home workers, many more than the Government's estimates.
She has an enjoyably broad architectural definition of the "workhome", as she calls it. "My standard definition is anything from the Queen in Buckingham Palace or the Prime Minister in Downing Street to the person making Christmas crackers on their kitchen table…anyone who spends more than eight hours a week working at home."
This research focuses on the future of the workhome, and says that more attention to building appropriate buildings for working and living in will have a positive effect on homeworkers, but also on the city in general. For instance, more people working at home also means less travel and a smaller building stock, both good for sustainability. Holliss's policy recommendations include a simplification of current tax rules that mean many homeworkers pay both council tax and business rates on the same property, and encouraging planning officers to allow people to build dedicated spaces at home for their work.”
