new garden room concept design
12th October 2011

For years conservatories have been hailed as a symbol of luxury in terms of additional space. However, the time has come for them to move over and garden rooms to be heralded as the new solution. in.it.Studios provides beautifully crafted contemporary spaces, with an environmental slant.  Garden rooms offer a great deal more flexibility than a conservatory ever could. These structures are designed to be built completely independent of your structure and as such are perfect spaces for studies or chill out areas acting as an oasis of silence in a busy life. Conversely they can also be employed as loud spaces away from the main home. As these rooms are completely water tight and soundly protected, they make perfect spaces to store and use bulky musical instruments such as pianos.

While the thought of heading out into the garden this winter to practice your scales may send a shiver down your spine, in.it.Studio’s garden rooms offer built in heating solutions. We also take great care in designing our structures to include high levels of thermal insulation, in order to keep the interior space warm with the minimum of heat loss. While garden rooms may feature a lot of windows like a conservatory, they differ in that these rooms are exposed on all sides to the elements and our double glass windows are filled with Argon specifically to counter this thermic challenge. This further emphasises the importance of a well-designed plan for incorporating insulation into the design of the structure.

Another aspect of our built-in design options is our lighting systems.  We typically offer built in halogen down lighters, which illuminate the space in an even manner across the breadth of the space. We also offer the more environmentally conscience option of LED lighting in our constructions, which have the added benefit of increased longevity.

Another great feature of garden rooms is that can be any size that you choose, making them perfect as a granny annex or a business space. We offer bespoke builds that feature fully functional kitchens, which are typically connected to the existing properties plumbing arrangements.  These spaces are ideal for creating living spaces for elderly relatives as they offer a level of independence without the associated cost of major building work.

With people looking to develop their own homes as opposed to moving, garden rooms, could be the ideal solution and additional space that you require for your family. Whether you are looking for a quiet retreat, somewhere to send your teenagers to or a guest houses, in.it.studios have something to offer you.

A granny annexe for example, is a great solution if your parent(s) could use a smaller place but want to maintain independence, what better solution that building them their own home effortlessly close to your own. The purpose built granny annexe can perfectly meet the needs of your relative, moreover, they can have input into their new home’s design. What you may not realise is that a granny annexe is a bigger version of a garden room, therefore anything that can be accomplished in a garden room can be achieved in the design of a granny annexe.

Having a guest house at the bottom of your garden is also beneficial if your children are growing up and moving in with partners, it means that they can have their own space whilst at home, for occasions such as family birthdays or Christmas. Depending on the amount of land you have available you could re-cooperate the money spent on your garden room/ guest house by renting it out when you do not have family or friends frequenting it.
Additionally, if you have found the perfect place that you enjoy going on holiday to, then why not choose to build your own holiday home? In the same vein as building a guest house in your garden you could then rent the holiday home out when you are not occupying it yourselves.

If you are thinking of moving home, have you considered building your own? At first thought this may seem extreme, however, imagine building your dream home! In.it.studios have the capability to create your perfect home, designed with your requirements and specifications in mine, whether you want to live the ultimate green lifestyle or create the perfect home to share with your family. If you have found the perfect area, but not the perfect home, then what would make more sense than to build your own?

Garden rooms can be much more than a room, if you dream of the perfect space in your back garden, or at your favourite holiday destination then contact in.it.studios to find out more about our products and services.

guest-house.jpg

The above floor plan is for a guest house cum Granny Annexe that we have just recently completed in Oxford, England.  This large Garden Room features extended decking with the clients opting to use the space for an outdoor dining area.  The entrance to the guest house is via a large set of bi-folding doors letting adequate natural light to enter whilst simultaneously allowing the internal and external spaces to mix when entirely opened.  Inside the Granny Annexe is a customisable sofa arrangement providing an ample seating and relaxation space for you and your guests.  A double bed, small kitchenette and a WC with shower unit ensures the guest house provides your nearest and dearest with all the comforts, amenities and facilities you would expect in house.

In addition, the client has chosen to incorporate a small storage unit towards the left of the build with a separate entrance also off the decking.  This is an effective way to keep the clutter out of the guest house, and also doubles up as a more practical and less bulky garden shed alternative.

Although this particular studio will primarily be used as a guest house, this concept is also an ideal solution for families looking to permanently house their close relatives – in a granny annexe.  Our garden rooms make for a safe, secure and comfortable home for your loved ones.  Living in a quality, warm and restful environment will not only ensure peace of mind for yourself but also for your family, knowing they are being well looked after and in good care.

We believe our Studios are the next generation of modern and sustainable classrooms - improving the schooling experience for both teacher and pupil.  We offer a stimulating yet natural environment to teach and learn respectively, giving the children that extra motivation and change of scenery they may need to reach their full potential.

As all components of the studio are built in our factory in Leicestershire, we can provide you with a simple and cost-effective solution to adding a new dimension to your school.  Our learning environments are delivered and installed in less than 4 weeks meaning the additional learning space is available to use in no time at all. This can be very helpful especially during these of austerity – when many schools are trying to find that fine balance between wanting to grow and expand and having less time and smaller budgets.

Although our classrooms are modular and delivered to site prefabricated, their versatility allows them to become more than just a learning environment.  We have and can design other spaces which maybe be of interest to your particular school…here’s a list to get your imagination flowing!

A Library | A common Room | A Science Centre | Changing Rooms | Canteen | After School Clubs | Swimming Pool | Exercise Hub

Thanks to Bark Joinery – our sister company, extras such as bike storage, shower rooms, office space, additional storeroom or whatever you require can all be incorporated into the design.  As all of the manufacturing is done under one roof in-house this enables us to design school buildings with unparalleled flexibility.

As a classroom should be able to perform well and provide workable and comfortable temperatures all year round we have ensured out thermal retention values (u-values) match and exceed those set by building regulations.  Foam Insulation boards, secondary thermoreflective foil membranes, contemporary glass heating panels and double glazed windows ensure the classrooms are fully insulated to reduce maintenance and keep energy bill down.

Natural light is a very important factor both biologically and psychologically.  Whether it is a work place, a Garden Room or a home, natural light has been proven to make people feel happier, less negative towards people/work and more productive.  As a result of this, we have incorporated features such as large bi-folding doors, floor-to-ceiling windows and electronic roof vents into the design of our classrooms to maximise the amount of natural light entering the space thus making for a healthy and energetic environment:

At in.it.studios, our unique approach to designing and manufacturing contemporary Garden Rooms gives us an unrivalled flexibility for tailor-made or bespoke living spaces.

These modern and customisable prefabricated studios provide a ‘turnkey’ solution to sustainable garden rooms.   We can provide you with the comforts and amenities of a room in-house, combined with the freedom and open-airiness of a Garden Room.  With the help of our Joinery Arm – Bark Joinery, whom manufacture all of the bespoke furniture inside the studio as well as the windows, doors etc can help transform your studio into a truly unique space to meet your exact requirements.  So whether it’s a special type of unit you’ve seen, that extra bit of storage you desperately need or a specific kitchenette, we can design and build your perfect Garden Room.  This unique approach enables us to manufacture almost all of the elements in house ensuring the highest quality and control is maintained throughout the build whilst simultaneously keeping costs down.

Here we suggest our 10 most popular choices of garden rooms, with clients often choosing for multi-purposes spaces.

1) Granny Annexe – We have approached the contemporary design with sustainability running in parallel with aesthetics.  These modern and contemporary granny annexes outperform most current houses, and are built to exceed building regulations – an indication of our fantastic insulation and thermal retention properties.

2) Home Cinema – bring the cinema home with a state of the art Home cinema room.  Bring friends and family round to share this exclusive home cinema experience.

3) Gym – Clients have complained an in-house ‘gym’ often ends up being utilised as a storage room or a utilities room.  With the gym located at the back of your garden, you can separate your home life from the gym, allowing you to workout in a suitable and dedicated environment

4) Art Studio – Having a studio a short walk down the garden lawn can give you the freedom and space to design or create your own little masterpiece.

5) Music Room - Our highly insulated and densely packed wall panels allow for minimal sound to escape, providing the user with an isolated and dedicated space to practise and perform the hobby without disturbing family members or neighbours.

6) Library – Create a dedicated, ambient and relaxing space to relax, read, store you’re collection of books and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

7) Office - With working from home becoming more common with the British folk, the last thing you want is to be working in a dingy shed.  Your workplace should be an inspiring, motivational space with adequate facilities to be at your most productive, separating your home life from your working life.

8) Family Room – Perfect if you need that bit of extra space in the house, ideal for entertaining friends, throwing dinner parties and chilling out with family.

9) Games Room – Snooker tables, table-tennis tables and other games can often take up valuable space within the home, so why not create a dedicated space for the family to hang out and relax.

10) Guest House – an ideal solution for families looking to house their close relatives or friends in a safe, secure and comfortable home, ensuring peace of mind.
